Course details

Course structure

  • The Breathing for Calm course is delivered through two interactive training days, held live over Zoom. In addition, you'll be asked to complete 2.5 hours of online training modules independently. The initial modules, lasting a total of two hours, will be available one month prior to day one of the training. After the second day, there is a shorter, 30-minute module to support the application of everything that you’ve learnt.

  • This training will be presented in 4 sections:

    • Understand provides you with the knowledge that you need to offer effective calming breathwork.

    • Assess teaches you how to gather the information that you need from your clients.

    • Choose shows you how to use this information to choose the best breathwork techniques.

    • Teach enables you to correctly teach the breathwork techniques to your clients.

  • A group supervision session will be held 2 months after the last day of the training. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions and discuss cases after applying the breathwork in your practice.

  • A certificate of completion will be provided upon full attendance of the training and supervision, and successful completion of a multiple choice assessment.

Eligibility for Training

Although this course has been designed with Counsellors and Psychotherapists in mind, Psychologists and Coaches are also very welcome to attend. Participants need to have completed a recognised professional training program and adhere to an ethical professional framework e.g. BACP, UKCP, BPS, or AC. Please note that I am currently unable to teach attendees based in the USA or Canada; so individuals need to be located outside of these regions. Participants are required to hold professional liability insurance.

Attendees need to be happy to engage in a personal breathwork practice, as this is required to teach breathwork well to clients. If it is challenging for you to focus on your breath because of unprocessed trauma, please contact me before registering to check whether you are likely to get the most out of the course at this time. Participants will require use of a laptop or tablet to access the training (as phones don’t provide a large enough view for the practical sections of the course).

What to expect

  • The training will consist of both theory and practical sessions.

  • Part of the training will be experiencing the breathwork yourself.

  • Practising teaching the techniques to others will start on Day 1 of the training and will be done in small groups.

  • It’s also important to practice the breathwork in your own time, both experiencing it yourself and teaching others. This will help you to gain confidence in the techniques and teach them well.

  • There will be a powerpoint presentation to aid your learning, copies of the slides will be provided. A workbook with useful forms and charts will also be provided.

  • There will be lots of opportunities to ask questions and get support!

“I really enjoyed the training… Nicola’s delivery was excellent; she was warm, calm and engaging - enabling group and individual learning whilst managing time. There were lots of demonstrations and plenty of opportunity to practise with others. It has positively changed my relationship with my breathing and recovery breathing techniques. Professionally, I have been able to put it into practice with others with confidence.”
